Solar Panel Recycling

6 Questions
Q1 Can solar panels be recycled? What materials can be recovered? +

Yes. RePV Tech processes end-of-life crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar modules using our proprietary AI-automated equipment for high-efficiency disassembly and sorting, recovering three high-value materials:

Silver (Ag): Electrode paste with high market value
Glass: High-purity separation, used in premium building materials such as kitchen countertops, island surfaces, and bathroom tiles
Silicon Wafer (Si): Core material for solar cells, suitable for recycled-material applications

Our technology targets a 99% material recovery rate while achieving a 40–60% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional methods.

Q2 Can I receive a recycling fee? Is small volume acceptable? +

Whether a recycling payment is available depends on the total volume submitted. A minimum scale is required before material pricing and payment calculations can be made.

Small volumes: Typically handled as a "processing fee" arrangement, where the owner covers processing costs and RePV handles compliant recycling.

Large volumes: A recycling payment may be negotiated; the specific amount depends on module condition, silver content, and market rates.

If you're unsure whether your decommissioning volume qualifies, feel free to contact us for an assessment — we can help you estimate.

Q3 What are the regulatory risks of improper solar panel disposal? +

Solar modules contain hazardous substances including heavy metals such as lead. Improper disposal may result in penalties and environmental liability under Taiwan's Waste Disposal Act.

Regulations on solar panel disposal are continuously evolving in Taiwan and major markets worldwide (e.g., EU WEEE Directive, Japan's related laws). We recommend operators proactively monitor local regulatory requirements and dispose through compliant channels.

RePV Tech can help operators process end-of-life modules through compliant channels, and coordinate with qualified waste handling partners as needed. Please contact us for more information.
Q4 What is the process for commissioning a recycling service? +

The basic process is as follows:

1. Initial Inquiry: Contact RePV and provide basic information such as module brand, model, quantity, and location

2. Solution Assessment: We evaluate your needs and coordinate appropriate recycling partners and processing methods

3. Logistics Arrangement: RePV coordinates the complete process including waste removal, transportation, and back-end recycling

4. Recycling Processing: Automated disassembly and sorting through compliant channels for high-purity material recovery

5. Results Report: A material recovery results report is provided

Since waste disposal regulations and procedures vary by region, we will coordinate the most suitable approach based on your specific situation. Please feel free to contact us for an initial discussion.

Q5 Where do the recycled materials go? What are the downstream applications? +

The high-purity recycled materials produced by RePV's process can be channeled into diverse high-value downstream applications:

Recycled Silver: Electronics industry, conductive pastes, jewelry manufacturing
Recycled Glass: Premium interior building materials including kitchen cooktops, island countertops, and bathroom tiles — combining aesthetic appeal with circular value
Recycled Silicon Wafer: Semiconductor raw material, new solar cell manufacturing

We are committed to channeling every recycled material into its highest-value application — realizing true "Urban Mining" rather than downcycling.

Q6 How does RePV's recycling approach differ from conventional waste processors? +

Conventional waste processors typically handle solar panels through "landfill or low-grade crushing," which fails to separate materials effectively, wastes resource value, and poses environmental risks.

RePV's differentiation lies in:

Full-Cycle Technology: AI-automated equipment achieves high-purity separation of silver, glass, and silicon wafers — not mixed crushing

Low-Carbon Processing: Minimum energy consumption design, reducing CO₂ by 40–60% versus conventional methods

Material Offtake Capability: RePV provides complete downstream recycled material sales channels — not just waste disposal

Flexible Input Acceptance: RePV does not require complete modules; we can flexibly accommodate clients' existing processing capabilities

Particularly suited for operators who have completed deframing and deglazing but lack downstream exhaust treatment capability — RePV can directly accept whole cellsheets with backsheet and perform precision recovery of silver and other high-value materials, without requiring clients to handle the subsequent processes.

EPC & Easy-Disassembly Modules

4 Questions
Q7 How do easy-disassembly modules differ from standard modules? Does generation efficiency suffer? +

RePV EVA Easy-Disassembly Modules use a specialized encapsulation technology that allows the module to be efficiently disassembled at end of life, significantly improving material recovery purity.

In terms of generation efficiency, easy-disassembly modules are optimized for power performance during the design phase, with negligible difference versus standard modules of the same specification — normal operation is unaffected.

The key difference lies at the "end of life": standard modules are difficult to recover at high purity, while easy-disassembly modules enable complete material regeneration — truly realizing cradle-to-cradle circular design.

Q8 Are easy-disassembly modules certified? How is reliability validated? +

RePV EVA Easy-Disassembly Modules have passed relevant tests and certifications. Key certification details:

TÜV Certification: Module quality and safety verification

Salt Spray Corrosion Test: IEC 61701 Test Sequence 8 for PV modules, conducted by ITRI Measurement Center

Additionally, easy-disassembly modules are backed by real-world deployments including the Porrima zero-emission vessel project — completing EPC installation on complex curved hull surfaces, validating module reliability and future recyclability in demanding environments.

Q9 Can I specify easy-disassembly modules for my project? Is there additional cost? +

Yes. RePV's EPC service supports clients in specifying RePV EVA Easy-Disassembly Modules at the planning stage, so the project is prepared for future end-of-life recycling from the moment of installation.

In terms of cost, easy-disassembly modules carry a premium over standard modules, but considering the higher material recovery value at decommissioning and potential regulatory compliance advantages, the total lifecycle cost is often more competitive.

We recommend discussing with us early in the EPC planning phase so that easy-disassembly modules can be integrated into an optimized system design.
Q10 What does the EPC service cover? Which regions are supported? +

RePV's EPC service covers the full turnkey process of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for solar systems — from conventional rooftop projects to special structures such as vessels and complex curved surfaces.

Current Service Regions: Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Europe

Service Scope: System design, module procurement and selection, installation, commissioning testing, long-term O&M planning
